SPILLERS is proud to support the renowned SEIB Burghley Sponsored Ride this year by providing a free weighbridge and feeding advice. The event takes place on Sunday 8 September at the end of the International Burghley Horse Trials.
Sponsored riders will be able to enjoy a 10-12km ride on a large section of the world’s toughest eventing cross country course, which isn’t normally open to riders. They can inspect famous feature fences from horseback such as the Trout Hatchery, Cottesmore leap and the Rolex which will make for some breathtaking pictures en route.
This year there will be an extra bonus in the lorry park at the event as SPILLERS will be providing a weighbridge service for horses, free of charge.
“Knowing how much your horse weighs will help you to assess your horse’s daily feed requirement,” explains Clare Barfoot RNutr, the research and development manager at SPILLERS. “It’s also an important guide to how much wormer they require and will help you to manage your transport payload.”
Nutritionists at the event will also be on hand to show how to Body Condition Score (BCS) your horse. This is a practical method of assessing the level of fat accumulation in specific areas of the body. The BCS, along with your horse’s actual weight and previous history can be assessed together by the nutritionist who will then be able to give you tailored nutritional advice.
100% of the funds raised from the Burghley Sponsored Ride will go to equestrian and local Stamford charities. This year’s chosen charities are World Horse Welfare, Hannah’s Willberry Wonder Pony and the BHS.
The SPILLERS weighbridge service is usually very popular so make sure you book your slot when you arrive at the lorry park. SPILLERS also has a feeding Care-Line to help you make the best feeding choices for your horses. To find out more, call 01908 226626 or visit www.spillers-feeds.com.
