Oasby provided the perfect start for Rutland-based riders Team Jones, with international event rider Richard Jones kicking off the 2020 event calendar in style. One of Richard’s up-and-coming youngsters Financial Express has continued his good 2019 form by winning the BE 100. Foot perfect and with dressage penalties of just 24.8, the team couldn’t have wanted a better start for his 2020 campaign. Financial Express is part-owned by Richard’s father and Dinah Saunders, co-owner of top ride Alfies Clover, who also had a good day.
The hard work top dressage rider Victoria Jones has put into Alfie’s dressage continues to pay dividends, with the two gaining just 30 penalties in the Open Intermediate. A ‘steady and easy’ breeze round the cross country and just a rail down show jumping from a fresh and happy Alfie was the perfect prep for Badminton in May.
Last year’s new arrival to the yard, Grafics, completed the team’s outing with a double clear in the Open Novice. He could have been more highly placed, but again Richard went steady cross country as it was the horse’s first event of the season and he is being aimed for Osberton 3* at the end of the year.
Victoria Jones and Extra II go North to make their mark in the Premier League
Victoria and her dressage top ride Extra II are now competing in some really hot classes – such is their success. Extra II is on song at the moment, having started the year off in January with a fifth place at the big Addington High Profile show with a PSG dressage of 68.89%.
His good form was confirmed at the recent Premier League event at Myerscough!
Myerscough is a long way to travel – situated beyond Preston in the North West – but a fabulous 68.2% earning a top six position in a huge and very competitive PSG Premier League competition made it all worthwhile.
The duo are knocking on the door for international qualification which is 69% – great results so early in the year.
More to come over the next weeks as Team Jones horses and riders prepare for a busy 2020. With good horses and an enthusiastic and hard-working team at Lowlands Farm, all is looking good so far!
Team Jones is lucky to have highly supportive sponsors all of whom are contributing to their success – animal feed and nutritional specialists Dodson and Horrell, photographers Julie Priestly and Deanne Ward, communications specialists IBA International, and new arrival Eco Voltz e-bikes that have revolutionised our accessibility at events.
