12th Spinal Research Charity Dressage February 18th 2012 – Please tell your friends

Have you ever been to the Spinal Research Dressage Competition? This will be our 12th year and we would be delighted if you could come and join us on Saturday, February 18th 2012 at Arena UK, Grantham. If you are one of our regular supporters then we do hope you will be able to support us again, and we are asking everyone to tell a friend about the competition and persuade them to take part.
Last time (2011) we had fantastic entries for this annual competition, and despite cold and gloomy conditions everyone remained cheerful and we raised over £6000, taking the eleven year total to over £58,000. Once again we were generously sponsored by many local businesses including Equestrian Life Magazine who have provided all the rosettes for this competition since we started in 2000. A big thank you to everyone for their support.
Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop reliable treatments for paralysis caused by a broken back or neck. Over 800 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed every year. Spinal Research raises money to fund research into clinical treatments as well as basic science research. Thanks to such pioneering research they stand on the brink of applying therapies that will restore movement and feeling and transform the lives of paralysed people. Like many charities Spinal Research is finding that fund raising is increasingly difficult in today’s economic climate. So we are going to trying even harder to reach our goal of £100,000.
Arena UK has very generously offered to host the competition again. It is a fantastic venue with excellent arenas, a pleasant restaurant serving hot and cold food and there is plenty of room for parking. We will be running prelim, novice and elementary classes and try to provide something for everyone – whether ‘first timers’ or experienced dressage competitors.
So to all those who have been before, it would be really great to see you again, and to those who have only just heard of us, be sure to give us a try. We try to make the whole day extremely friendly so that everyone enjoys the day and helps us raise loads of money for this worthwhile cause.
Schedules will be available in early January in local tack and feed shops or by contacting us at cbnewton@btinternet.com or send a SAE to Rose Cottage, Thurgarton Lane, Hoveringham, Nottingham, NG14 7JS. Phil and Chris Newton
