Charles Owen Pony Three Day Event
This year’s Autmn Pony 3DE winner was Toby Bell with his beautiful strawberry roan ride, the aptly named Strawberry Box. This combination are new to the BE Pony programme this year, having lead a strong campaign this season. Toby won the class on a score of 52.9, 1.2 penalties ahead of the second placed Camilla Hope with Abbey Prince. The third placed combination was Another Island ridden by Annabel Dalton who finished on a score of 55.8.
The Pony programme is for riders aged 12 and 16 riding ponies between 142cm and 148cm (14hh – 14.2hh) with the 3DE competition held at one star level.
Young Rider National Championships
The 2011 National Young Rider Champion is Lucy Loughton who was riding Butterfly II, a new ride for her this season. The pair finished in the lead on a dressage score of 50.3 plus 7.2 time penalties across country making a total of 57.5. This was the horse and rider’s first CCI2*. The second-placed Young Rider combination was Danielle Dunn riding Gunstone Wallstreet to finish on a score of 61.6. Third place was occupied by Julia Fairbank with her ride Touchalier, 4.4 penalties behind Dunn.
Riders in the Young Rider programme are aged between their 19th to 21st birthday riding horses.The National Championship is held at two star level.
KBIS Under 18 Open Novice; Team and Individual competition
Will Furlong, aged 16 from Battle in the South-East U-18 region took the KBIS sponsored U-18 ON title with his ride Pioneer Silvie adding only 4 faults to his dressage score of 41.4.
Groups of ten riders from each of the BE U-18 regions were selected to compete in regional teams. The Midlands region won the team competition on a collective score of 208.6, with the team comprised of: Sophie How, Abigail Boulton, Teri Rudkin, Bert Bolton, Harriet Deeming, Nicola Nelson, Frederick Henderson, Jess Milson, Georgie Rockingham and Ella Woodhead. The Northern team was in close second with 209.2 and the Central team in third on 215.10
The BE U-18 Programme is a regional support and competition framework for riders aged 18 and under. The ON U-18 championship is also held over a one star level course.
Several prestigious awards were given out at Weston Park in celebration of this year’s European Championship achievements. Willa Newton was presented with the Sir John Burder Trophy for her achievement as best individual British rider at this year’s Young Rider Europeans at Blair Castle (Scotland) where she gained the individual silver title.
Zoe Brenan received the Hubert Allfrey trophy for her outstanding performance at the Junior Europeans in Vale Sabroso (Portugal) where she was crowned individual and team champion.
The youngest of the award winners was Sam Ecroyd who was awarded with the Jane Rook trophy for best individual performance at the Pony Europeans in Jazkowo (Poland) where he brought home individual silver and team bronze.
