Wadworth - Wadworth Shire Horses receive heartwarming holiday send off

Hundreds of people gathered in the picturesque Wiltshire village of Poulshot on Friday to wave the Wadworth Shire horses off on their annual holiday.  Monty and Max, coats gleaming in the sunshine, stood patiently awaiting their customary pint at The Raven Pub.  Straying away from the usual 6X, this year the two gentle giants were treated to Wadworth’s award winning Corvus Stout.

Having enjoyed their customary pint, Monty and Max were led through the village surrounded by both children and adults alike, eager to accompany the horses. For the next fortnight they will relax in their much-loved holiday home – fields just a quarter of a mile away.

Jerry Edwards, landlord at The Raven said ‘’The Wadworth horses annual holiday gets more and more popular each year – with Friday seeing our biggest turn-out yet. Everyone loves seeing the horses up-close, with both shires appearing to relish their celebrity-like status.’’

The horses, who spend the rest of the year at work with the brewery, are a familiar sight in Devizes as they deliver casks of real ale to the local Wadworth pubs. They return to the Stables on Tuesday 26th  August.
