Top British riders at Eventing hot spots around the country

The weekend past was one packed with Eventing competitions for top British riders at Gatcombe Park (Gloucs), Burgham (Northumberland) and Great Witchingham (Norfolk).

William Fox-Pitt, Zara Phillips, Lucy Wiegersma and Oliver Townend dominated the top twenty places in the Advanced Intermediate sections at Gatcombe Park; Phillips was overall the most triumphant with three horses in the top fifteen including High Kingdom (11th), hailed as her outside-chance for Olympic selection.

Norfolk-bred Piggy French was busy with nine horses at Great Witchingham, campaigning her new ride Livingstone II in the Advanced intermediate finishing in an impressive second place in his third outing under his new rider.

Pathfinder for the British squad in 2010 and 2011, Nicola Wilson, set to task in the new Advanced section at Burgham taking eighth place with her young ride Inde, whilst overseas the reigning Rolex Grand-Slam winner Pippa Funnel headed to Fontainebleau (FRA). Funnell rode Pure Addiction to finish 19th in the CICO3* class on the horse’s second outing of 2012.

Many of these top riders will now head to Belton International Horse Trials in Grantham (Lincolnshire) this weekend to continue their 2012 campaign in the Advanced or CIC3* sections. Visit for more information.

Entries are now in for the top level of the sport at Badminton and Kentucky where for those still aiming to qualify for Olympic selection or strengthen their campaign may now be heading.
