Y Fillies_and_Mares_157-1Almost 300 entries including horses from as far afield as Holland , Germany , Switzerland and Sweden , will gather for the Shire Horse Society’s National Show over the weekend of 22 – 23 March at Arena UK , Grantham. The event is the world’s largest gathering of the breed and advance tickets have been sold to enthusiasts coming from as far away as Australia and the USA .
 
Over the weekend the horses will take part in a fascinating range of competitive classes in which they will be assessed by expert judges. Classes will include in-hand, ridden and driven turnouts as well as dressage to music. Demonstrations of Shire horses in action will celebrate the unique and remarkable breed that has played a key part in Britain ‘s history. Trade stands, farriery demonstrations and a fun fair will ensure that the show has something for everyone.
 
David Ralley-Davies, Secretary of the Shire Horse Society, a registered charity said : “The National Shire Horse Show showcases the Society’s work of protecting this endangered breed. We are very much looking forward to welcoming visitors to celebrate the Shire over the weekend of 22-23 March.”
 
The Shire Horse Society’s National Show will take place over the weekend of 22 – 23 March at the Arena UK Showground, Allington, near Grantham, Lincolnshire NG32 2EF.
