Nigel Giuliana and Jess 2 750x426 - Sanctuary Celebrates Opening of New Visitor Centre Barn

Nigel Giuliana and Jess 2The Mare and Foal Sanctuary held a special celebratory event to mark the opening of a new barn at the charity’s visitor centre recently.
Staff, trustees and the Sanctuary’s horses and ponies came together to officially open the building at Coombe Park Visitor Centre, Totnes, on Thursday 8th November.
Hindsite Construction Limited, who built the structure and have been working at Coombe Park for the past 6 months, also attended the celebrations.
Sanctuary trustees Nigel Brown and Giuliana Brewer formally opened the barn with Jess the horse, one of the barn’s new residents, at their side.
The barn, which was built thanks to funds raised by the Sanctuary’s loyal supporters, will see dramatic improvements to the wellbeing of the charity’s horses and ponies and also provide better working conditions for staff.
Simon Avery, Executive Director at The Mare and Foal Sanctuary, said: “It was wonderful to see everyone gathered together to mark this important occasion in the Sanctuary’s history.
“We are incredibly grateful to Hindsite Construction for their hard work over the past few months, and also to our fantastic supporters. Without their generosity we would never have been able to build the new barn.
“The new structure makes such a difference for our horses and ponies. The old barn was dilapidated and in a bad state of repair with ventilation and drainage problems. Now, our animals will be warm and dry over the winter months and those with respiratory issues will be living in far more suitable stables.
“Our yard staff will also benefit from the improvements with better storage, lighting and working conditions. Visitors to the centre will be able to have tours of the barn and meet the horses and ponies who live there, so our supporters will be able to see for themselves the huge difference their money has made.”
Gareth Walker from Hindsite Construction Limited, said: “We were delighted to be asked to design and build the barn for The Mare and Foal Sanctuary and work together again on another exciting project.
“We are very proud of what we have achieved at Coombe Park and we hope that The Mare and Foal Sanctuary enjoy their new stables for many years to come.”
