Over the easter weekend, four teams of knights descended upon the Royal Armouries in Leeds, hailing from the United Kingdom, Canada, Poland and the United States; with the goal of winning the coveted titles of “Tournament team champions” and “individual champions”. Spread over all four days of the bank holiday weekend, thundering hooves and the breaking of lances could be heard across the City Centre.
A Tournament is not just about the Joust it is about a knights skill, both within the Tilt, and on horse back. Points are awarded for blows to the body, Targe (shield) or head; but points are also awarded for horsemanship. Every knight competing at the tournament also takes part in Skill-at-Arms, which is scored and points are awarded based on how well each test is completed, from the quintain to the lettuce chop, all are used to prove and hone their skills.
The Knights taking part in the tournament were:
Team UK – Andy Deane and Mike Collin (pictured top left)
Team USA – Jeff Wasson and Jeff Sanders
Team Canada – Jessy Dufresne and Jean-Francois Drapeau
Team Poland – Michal Ruda and Piotr Rydzewski
The Tournament Team Champions were Team USA
The Tournament Individual Champion was Andy Deane (UK)
