Pony Club Stars of Tomorrow Are Selected!

30 talented Pony Club Members from across the country made their way to Rider Development Pathway (RDP) Camp, supported by the Sport England funded BEF Excel Talent Programme, at Somerford Park in Cheshire, July 4-5th for a weekend of top class coaching in their chosen discipline of Dressage, Show Jumping or Eventing.
Pony Club Members were selected for the RDP Camp following ten Regional Assessment Days, and worked throughout the weekend with recognised and experienced coaches, including Harry Payne (Dressage), Gary Parsonage (Eventing) and Philippa Curry (Show Jumping), alongside other industry experts to work holistically on all aspects of the riders’ performance; including one to one mentoring and goal setting with Spencer Sturmey, as well as balance and position work to analyse position and technique with Hilary Wakefield.  There were also one to one consultations for each of the riders’ horses and an evening lecture on equine nutrition featuring the ever popular ‘Harry the gut’, a fabric replica of and equine gut, courtesy of Dengie Horse Feeds nutritionist Claire Akers.
At the end of the RDP Camp a final six riders were selected to be part of the RDP Development Squad, and will receive further individual support and guidance for future development and training opportunities.
Selected RDP Squad riders are as follows:
Holly Lucas Peak Branch
Samantha Wuidart Bedfordshire South Branch
Katie Patrick Barlow Hunt Branch
Lucy Robinson Meynell Hunt Branch
Lucy Morgan Monmouthshire Branch
Hollie Pearce Garth Hunt Branch
Katie Patrick (Barlow Hunt Branch), selected for the Eventing comments “The RDP camp was a fantastic experience and I learnt a huge amount over the two days. The whole structure of the camp was fantastic and as well as the training I received within my discipline, I also really valued the goal setting, nutrition and balance and position sessions. I am absolutely delighted to have been selected for the RDP Squad and I am very much looking forward to seeing where this wonderful opportunity can take me”.
Hollie Pearce (Garth Hunt Branch), selected for Show Jumping, echoed Katie’s comments, saying “The whole RDP experience has been fantastic, the RDP Camp was brilliant and I learnt so much in just one weekend! Having a wealth of knowledge under one roof was amazing. I am really looking forward to being part of the RDP Squad and am excited to be working with The Pony Club to progress my career even further
I had been looking forward to the RDP camp for quite a few weeks and it didn’t disappoint” said Sammi Wuidart (Bedfordshire South Branch) who was selected for Dressage. It was great meeting everyone and hearing all about their horse lives. We had a fantastic dressage trainer in Harry Payne and he helped Maisie and I enormously; we also were able to have a video feedback session of our ridden dressage test with the judge, an opportunity you don’t usually get! Seeing how good the other riders were, I feel very privileged to be given an RDP Squad place and very excited about where it’s going to take me!
Going forwards, those selected for the RDP Squad will work with an experienced mentor who will continue to develop their progression and training within their discipline, as well as receiving funding for training and other bespoke training opportunities; all riders who attended the RDP will be encouraged to attend further training, national and international competitions with further input from selected coaches.
The RDP has an active Facebook page where you can view pictures from the training days and camp, read blogs and find out more: www.facebook.com/PCRDP?ref=hl
