Natasha Baker 150x150 - Natasha Adkinson Para rider’s columnI have been selected to represent GB!

These past couple of months have gone in a flash but I am very excited to say that I’ve been selected to represent GB at the Bishop Burton International CPEDI2*! This is the highest international competition I can do before I move up from being a restricted to open rider. I have also been very busy with the Para Home International and the Hickstead Championships.

The Para Home International was the first major event for Danny and I this summer and was held at Vale View Equestrian. I was fortunate to have the help of my World Class Squad co-ordinator, David Hamer, during my warm up on the first day. He gave me some key tips, which helped me to come 2nd however there were definite things I could still improve on so I was excited to see what I could score on the following day. On the second day, Danny felt a lot more enthusiastic. My team did very well coming in 5th and I managed to come 2nd individually so I was more than proud of Danny.

Whilst at the Home International, I got the chance to have a go at my first KBIS Qualifier for the National Championships at Stoneleigh in September. Danny felt incredible in the warm-up so I put my nerves aside and went for it. I got a very good qualifying score of 66.5% in our first ever attempt at the Individual Championship test. I was so proud of Danny and he definitely deserved his Polos.

A lot of hard work had been put into preparing for the Hickstead Championships and I was feeling ready!

The atmosphere at Hickstead this year was bigger than ever but Danny took it all in his stride. I’ve always been taught to make the best of every opportunity so I did the arena walk as it was good to be able to stretch Danny’s legs. The warm up test went really well and I came 2nd with 70% so it gave me a great confidence boost ready for the championship test. The next day brought the championship test, which was all-in-all a great experience. Danny was feeling fab and I knew he could do it, which he did as we came 2nd overall.

I am very excited for the international, as it will be an incredible experience for both of us!
