Said Liz Leggett, of Ideal Saddles: “We are delighted to be able to offer support to up and coming young riders like Matthew and wish him every success for the future.”
The 21-year-old has recently returned to his Yorkshire roots following a successful season on the European circuit having being based in Belgium with Henk Nooren, the legendary Dutch show jumper and trainer, and recently appointed coach to the French show jumping team.
Matthew has been around horses all his life and has always loved show jumping more than any other discipline. He started competing in affiliated competitions from the tender age of eight and was a keen member of the Grove & Rufford Pony Club and hunted with the Rockwood Harriers.
Following a successful career on ponies, winning a team gold medal at the Junior European Championships in 2008, Matthew went on to win the Accenture Young Show Jumper of the Year in 2009 as well as an individual bronze medal at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney in the same year. After gaining valuable experience in Europe over the past season, his aims for the coming year are to move up higher in senior competitions and aim for selection onto a senior Nations Cup team.
Matthew currently has five rides and his two top horses to look out for are Rush On M and Utopia. He rides in a bespoke saddle which has been specially designed for him by Ideal and is based on the Impala Professional tree but with twin flaps. The company offers this tailor-made service for any customer.
Said Matthew: “I am very pleased to have this support from The Ideal Saddle Company. My bespoke saddle is very comfortable for both me and the horses. It’s a really good fit on them and lightweight, meaning they have no back pain at all. Knowing the horses are happier with their saddle makes me a happier rider.”
