Louise Green 169x300 - Local rider qualifies for SEIB Trailblazers National Championships.Louise Green, 34, from Nottingham, has qualified for the SEIB Trailblazers National Championships which is taking place at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire on the to 29 July – 6 August. Louise will be competing in the Equestrivan Showing Championship in the ridden and working cob classes.

After a lifetime with horses, Louise had to give them up in 2014 due to career and health issues. “After a year out of the equine world, I felt lost without them in my life,” she says. She saw an advert for a cob that was available for part-loan and, in September 2015, went to visit the horse and its owner. That horse was Gypsy, an 8-year-old coloured mare, and Louise and her owner, Emma Grey, immediately hit it off.

“When I went to try Gypsy and meet her owner, Emma Grey, all my day-to-day stress went away,” Louise explains. “Although Gypsy was, at the time, a grumpy mare who wanted another job in life, I could tell that she was a lovely horse with lots of potential. Emma had made the decision to part-loan Gypsy and she knew Gypsy was telling her she wanted to do something more than ridden showing!”

Since partnering up with Louise, Gypsy’s life has certainly had the variety she wanted. The pair went out hunting straight away and have gone on to compete in show jumping, eventing, and showing. It was at Hargate Show on the 5th of June, where Louise and Gypsy took working hunter supreme champion, that Louise was persuaded to give the Trailblazers Championships a go.

“It’s straightforward, and it’s easy to understand how to qualify for the championships,” says Louise of the competition, at which she’ll be able to compete in the working cob championship – a class that’s not often offered.

The competition will be Louise’s first experience of competing away from home for the weekend at a major show. She hopes to be in a position to buy Gypsy in the future.

The SEIB Trailblazers Championships are a seven-day equestrian extravaganza with on-site camping, stabling, flags and flowers. It provides riders at grassroots level with the opportunity to experience a Championship atmosphere, the thrill of riding in the grand arenas and the prospect of completing a lap of honour in magnificent style.

Louise and Gypsy will be competing at the finals which take place 29 July – 6 August at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire. For more details, dates and venues visit our website www.trailblazerschampionships.com.  Follow us on Facebook, www.facebook.com/Trailblazers-Championships
