International grand prix dressage rider and trainer Lisa Hopkins, a double winner at the recent British Dressage Regional Championships at Addington, has become the latest successful rider to choose a Sue Carson Saddle.
Lisa’s choice from the Sue Carson range is the completely bespoke Grand Prix Special, which was fitted by Sue Carson Saddles distributor Becky Whitcombe to international grand prix horse Walkman BC.
13yo Walkman BC (Bugsy) is owned by Lindsey Roberts and having contested his first grand prix only last year, he began this season with a win in the grand prix at Addington and is being aimed at Premier League and International competition this year.
Lisa, who is based near Mursley in Buckinghamshire, explains; “This saddle has made such a huge difference to Bugsy’s confidence in the changes, especially in the one tempis, which before the new saddle were quite tight and tense. We noticed a change immediately and were thrilled to win his first Grand Prix shortly after getting the new saddle.
“He feels so much freer in the shoulder and softer in his back and as a great secondary benefit we are also seeing noticeable improvements in his extended trot.
“I find the rider position is excellent as knee blocks are positioned especially for the individual rider and I particularly like the fact that the seat is deep with a narrow twist, which really allows the rider to feel connected to the horse. As Bugsy is still constantly developing more muscle we are able to adjust and balance the saddle easily with the Flair air-flocking system and are really looking forward to this season.”
Lisa adds; “As a rider you don’t want to be constantly asking owners to lash out on expensive new equipment but we have seen such a direct improvement since getting this Sue Carson saddle that even his owner thinks it’s the best money we’ve spent on him in a long time.”
