DRESSAGE rider, Tracy, has ridden all her life and now owns her own small livery yard, where she keeps her 11-year-old dressage horse, JJ. Tracy has owned the 17hh gelding by Diamond Hit for the last three years. He initially suffered terrible intolerances to feed as well as having a cough and the HAYGAIN HG-600 hay steamer has helped to transform him.
“When he arrived, JJ had done a few Novice tests but had a lot of problems,” said Tracy. “He has an intolerance of several feed products, including sugar beet, alfalfa and most compound feeds which caused him to come out in an itchy rash.”
However, after much trial and error, Tracy found an alternative, coconut-based feed which suits JJ really well.
To add to JJ’s food intolerances, his nostrils were also quite red and bloodshot and he also coughed every time he first started trotting. So Tracy trialled and then bought the HG-600 in December 2014 and hasn’t looked back. Within 12 hours of feeding the steamed hay, JJ’s nostrils had improved and for the first time in a long time ‘looked normal.’
JJ also stopped coughing through feeding him steamed hay from the HG600.
Said a delighted Tracy, “The HAYGAIN is absolutely fantastic and makes such a difference to JJ. I wouldn’t be without it.”
Tracy uses the HG-600 two or three times a day and is thrilled with how easy it is to use, plus JJ really enjoys the steamed hay. She is now looking forward to her busiest season yet in 2016 with JJ, who is now a different horse.
Trained by Adam Kemp, whom she previously worked for as a groom, Tracy and JJ are now competing at PSG and Inter 1 level and have set a target of attending Premier League shows this year.
Explained Tracy: “We will head to the Winter Regional Championships at Summerhouse, Gloucestershire in February and I am then planning to compete at Hartpury, Summerhouse and Wellington Premier Leagues. My trainer, Adam, said we need to crack on now that JJ is going so well.”
Tracy also uses the HAYGAIN HG-600 for an older horse on her yard with respiratory issues. “It’s made a big difference to him too,” added Tracy.
