The horrendous weather led to the cancellation of the last two days of the three-day Great Yorkshire Show, much to everyone’s disappointment. However, we stuck at it and queued in the traffic for 3 hours to cover as much as possible on the first day. The walkways were fine and the shopping as excellent as ever. Classes that went ahead were very well supported with most of the entries forward. Classes on the first day included the Irish Draughts, the Mountain and moorland ponies – Highland, Connemara and New Forest and separate classes for Exmoor Ponies, Small Hunters, Working Hunters, Heavy Horses, Cleveland Bays, Retrained Racehorses, Ridden Coloureds and Ridden Hunters.
A really good downpour in the afternoon sealed the fate of the show. The horsebox parking was already extremely muddy and the car parks were full, with park & ride buses bringing visitors in from a mile or so away. Here are a few of the photographs we took and the best ones are being saved for the North edition of the August issue of Equestrian Life.
