· Royal Mail will have available tomorrow a gold medal stamp to celebrate Sophie Christiansen, Deborah Criddle, Lee Pearson and Sophie Wells’ gold medal win in the Equestrian: Team – Open event

· The stamps will be on sale in over 500 Post Office branches, across the country tomorrow

· This is the 25th gold medal stamp Royal Mail has produced for ParalympicsGB

· Royal Mail will also paint four of its historic red post boxes gold, one in each athletes’ hometown:

Sophie Christiansen – Sunningdale Berkshire

Deborah Criddle – Taunton

Lee Pearson – Stoke-on-Trent

Sophie Wells – Newark, Nottinghamshire

Royal Mail has produced a stamp to honour Sophie Christiansen, Deborah Criddle, Lee Pearson and Sophie Wells’ gold medal triumph in the Equestrian: Team – Open Event and it will be available in Post Offices across the country tomorrow.

Sophie Christiansen and Sarah Storey become the first people, after members of the Royal Family, William Shakespeare, Charles Darwin, Winston Churchill and Robert Burns, to have been depicted in three separate UK stamp issues.

Royal Mail is delighted to be issuing these very special gold medal stamps to recognise our Paralympic champions. This will be the first time ever that a set of stamps has been issued to celebrate Paralympic gold medallists from the host country. On 29 August, Royal Mail became the first postal administration whose country is hosting the Games to issue a set of stamps to celebrate the start of the Paralympic Games.

The stamps will be on sale tomorrow in over 500 Post Offices across the UK. The closest post offices for residents of the athlete’s home towns are as follows:

Sophie Christiansen – Maidenhead Post Office 114 High Street, SL6 1PT

Deborah Criddle – Taunton Post Office, 38 North Street, Taunton, TA1 1AB

Lee Pearson – Longton Post Office 51-53 Bennett Precinct, Stoke-On-Trent, ST3 2HR

Sophie Wells – Lincoln Road Post Office, 2 Middleton Road, Newark, NG24 2DN

Customers can also purchase the stamps from tomorrow at www.royalmail.com/goldmedalstamps and from Royal Mail’s customer service centre on 08457 641 641 located at Tallents House, 21 South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh, EH12 PPB.

An additional 4,700 post offices will receive the Gold medal stamps within a week.
