The Show Personality of the Year Awards has, over the last 3 years, established itself as a highlight in the showing calendar with the Alltech Lifeforce Breeder of the Year being one of the most prized categories in this prestigious event. Held at the Hilton Metropole NEC Birmingham on 2nd October, finalists and guests enjoyed a superb buffet and a ‘Hollywood style’ awards evening filled with showing’s elite.
With six of the leading studs in contention for the Alltech Breeder’s Award and hundreds of public votes received, just two votes separated the eventual winner, the Stanley Grange Stud – established some thirty six years ago by Jerome Harforth – and Ann Fowler and Peter Thomas’s Broadgrove Stud who took the runners-up slot. The star studded line-up also included Lady Anne Vestey’s Kentchurch Stud, Liz Mansfield-Parnell’s Rotherwood Stud, Nicola Tyler’s Springwater Stud and Pendley Stud which is owned by Jennifer Williams.
Both Stanley Grange and Broadgrove studs have enviable reputations for producing top quality animals that regularly take major titles. The homebred stallion Stanley Grange Cocksure qualified for the prestigious Cuddy Supreme at the Horse of the Year Show in 2011 where he stood second in the finals, whilst this year Stanley Grange bred animals made their mark at the top shows across the UK and the Stanley Grange prefix was evident in the Large Hack finals at HOYS. The Broadgrove Stud has produced the HOYS Children’s Riding Pony Champion for an impressive 3 consecutive years.
