Come along to The Blue Cross equine centre in Rolleston between 10am and 3pm on Saturday 23 July to celebrate the centre’s fifth anniversary. Lots of fun activities are planned throughout the day to mark this significant landmark just come long to the centre on Dovecliff Road in Rolleston-on-Dove.
Over 200 horses, ponies and donkeys have been taken into the centre since it opened in 2006. The charity has found new homes for over 170 and there are currently around 60 animals (including three donkeys) being cared for until they are ready for new homes to be found.
Kath Urwin, Blue Cross centre manager at Rolleston said: “We are immensely proud of the work at the centre over the past five years. Some of the horses have been sadly mistreated and need a great deal of care before they are ready to go to a new home. We are so grateful to the ongoing support we have received from local animal lovers, without them it would be very difficult to continue our work helping the many animals who really need our help.”
Activities on the day include:
- Riding demonstrations
- The chance to meet the horses, ponies and donkeys staying at the centre
- Discover the history of The Blue Cross as acted out by staff and horses
- Dog agility display
- Face painting
- Raffle and tombola
- Farmers Market, second hand tack sale and other stalls
There will also be the chance for visitors to see the centres newest resident, their first foal to be born on site. Both mum and her baby are doing well and small groups will be allowed to quietly see them together on the day.
The Blue Cross does not receive any government funding so it relies on the support of the public and events like this to continue its vital work.
