British Dressage is calling for supporters to attend Paralympic Dressage selection events at Hickstead (The British Para Dressage Championships 18-19 June) and Hartpury (Festival of Dressage CDPI 4 – 8 July) to help create a ‘Games-like’ atmosphere.
The events will complete final preparations for the Games and it is intended that they will help accustom both the equine and human athletes to the environment of a major international show. Both shows will feature past medal winners and potential future stars in action. Initial entry lists include nine-times Gold medallist Lee Pearson, Sophie Wells, Natasha Baker, Anne Dunham and Sophie Cristiansen.
The events at both Hickstead and Hartpury will be free for spectators and organisers are keen to bolster the crowds and attract as many supporters as possible. The aim is to create a busy show environment to ensure the horses are suitably prepared for the many unfamiliar sights and sounds at Greenwich when the Games begin in August.
Spectators are welcome across all days at both events and this is a great opportunity to get behind our Paralympian dressage riders. British Dressage Chief Executive Amanda Bond said ‘This is a great chance to see top class dressage, particularly for those who have missed out on tickets for the Games. We really need dressage enthusiasts to support the team with this crucial preparation for the Paralympics. It really is a case of your country needs you!’
