Well I had imagined this month’s article to be all about our time at Chatsworth Horse Trials, but we heard the devastating news only the day before it was meant to run that they had to cancel the event after all the rainfall we have had. We were most upset, because this is something that cannot be rescheduled and we had been training hard for it all year. I have had to re-route Candy to Bishop Burton BE100 as we won’t have done anything for nearly two months, and then we will step her up again to Novice at Brand Hall. My young horse Lady missed out on doing the BYEH (Burghley Young Event Horse) class so she is aimed at Eland Lodge then Brand Hall 4yo class.
Our preparation before the run up to Chatsworth couldn’t have gone much better; Candy had trained cross country at Somerford Park the week before showing real bravery especially jumping into the water and with tricky combinations that stepping up to a Novice track includes. I then took her to do some BSJA at Hargate Arena a few days later, she came 4th in the Discovery and 2nd in the Newcomers. Lady did some show jumping at Beaver Hall to win both of her classes. She was so grown up in the ring to say it was only her 2nd time ever show jumping!
Despite the disappointing blow of Chatsworth, the day before I passed my HGV licence which I was ecstatic about, now I can take my horses out all by myself. Although I don’t want to give my mother (groom) any excuse not to come along so we have decided to share the driving!
And if passing my HGV wasn’t big enough news, I had such an exciting email from Blue Chip who are kindly sponsoring my horses & I. I had to read the email over 10 times before it felt real, I am overwhelmed that such a huge company wants me on board next to top medal winning riders. It feels very surreal. Sarah from Blue Chip came out to see the horses to discuss their feeding regime. After looking at their work load she instantly suggested Feed Balancer Pro. I usually feed lots of supplements which as you know can get very costly. The feed balancer Pro does every single thing the supplements I fed do, plus a lot more. To put it simply my dad could even make the horses feed up it’s that simple now! The other thing is that it only contains 100% natural ingredients.
Lady can get quite anxious when at a competitions, especially when warming up and she doesn’t like the waiting about (like most humans, who doesn’t get nervous or stressed?). Sarah thought I should try Blue Chip Karma, she also gave us some instant calmers to try just to take the edge off and to really get the best from her. The Blue Chip Karma is also really good for horses who are stressed travelling, hacking or on box rest, and again only contain 100% natural ingredients.
Now I am off to Ireland for a week with Fox Covert Horses so will have a very interesting article for you all next month all about buying potential eventers and importing them!
