Ackworth & District Riding Club had a total of 66 entries over the weekend with members taking part in the summer dressage and show jumping qualifiers held 12th & 13th July. A last minute venue change meant that Epworth Equestrian and the Area 4 Riding Club committee were rushing round to accommodate the huge number of entries over the two days, a huge thank you from our club to everyone who ensured the event could still go ahead. Ackworth had a cracking start to the day with a win for our Junior Novice show jumping team consisting of Leila Edwards, Edward Hardy, Victoria Wilson and Isobel Hardy. This was shortly followed by another team win, this time from our Junior Intermediate show jumping team including Alex Proctor, Eliza Yeardley, Bryony Lugton and Chloe Naismith which means both teams qualified for the Championships in September! Next up we had the seniors who unfortunately didn’t manage to match the juniors amazing team placings but still came away with an individual first and another championship qualifier from Chloe Carnevale on Bertie Bassett in the Novice Senior show jumping, plus a team 4th in the Intermediate class.

We had several members taking part in the Style jumping for the first time, Style Jumping is similar to Show Jumping, but marks are based on the rider’s performance rather than the horses. Three of our members won in their sections, Lizzie Reid on Newmiln Laksidaisikal, Alex Johnson on Its Romeo and junior member Eliza Yeardley on Prince which means all three have also qualified for the National Championships! We had two other team placing’s in the style jumping, the senior Ackworth Blue team came 6th and the junior purple team came 2nd just missing out on the qualifying spot.

On to the Dressage and sadly red just wasn’t Ackworth’s colour of the day! However we had some very respectable placing’s throughout the day; including Margaret Smith on her homebred youngster Moulin Rouge who was placed 4th in the Prelim Riding test and a team 4th for the Ackworth Gold team in the Senior Riding Test, to name a few. Congratulations to all of the riders who qualified, there was a fantastic team spirit throughout the whole weekend for the club and I’m sure a good weekend was had by all.
