Two Ackworth and District Riding Club Members have recently qualified for the Grassroots Final at the famous Badminton. The vibrant Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Grassroots Championships brings together winners from BE90 and BE100 regional qualifiers from around the country to contest the overall Championship. Lizzie Reid, 23, who is sponsored by R & R Country recently came 2nd in her class at the Brooksby Melton Horse Trials with a double clear on her horse Nelson VI, securing her place at the Championships. Lizzie said of her qualification “I’ve been incredibly lucky to have the ride on such a genuine horse over the past three years and don’t regret a single minute. I’m very grateful to Mum who is meticulous at turning out and a valuable pair of eyes on the ground, Margaret Smith who has spent many an hour helping me develop his flatwork and realise that dressage can actually be enjoyable! And last but not least to Colin Johnson for giving me three fabulous years eventing his home bred gentle giant. We hope I have the ride a little longer so I can fulfil a lifelong dream of riding at such a prestigious event as Badminton, having already had close friends reserving their spot to come and groom!”
Another Ackworth & District Riding Club member Eliza Yeardley will also be joining Lizzie at the Champs, having secured her place in the finals at Bishop Burton Horse Trials on 5th October with a fantastic 28 dressage score on her pony Prince VIII and a double clear finishing in 7th position.
