- The Championships started back in 2001 as a way to give something back to the Riding Clubs.
- From humble beginnings with about 40 at the Championships, they have now grown to over 400 competitors on Championship day.
- The Supreme Champion takes away fabulous rosettes, sash, prizes and £200 in cash
- The Reserve Supreme Champion takes away fabulous rosettes, sash, prizes and £100 in cash
- This year we have more qualifiers than in previous years with more chances to qualify
- Our Championship schedule offers great variety for all ages, breeds and disciplines
- The Supreme Presentation this year will be in front of a large crowd on Newark Showground as part of the Ponies UK Evening Performance, with a great atmosphere, music and lights (glorious weather booked too!)
What’s New For the Organiser?
The rules this year are much simpler and you can hold up to two qualifiers – for a full set of information, please email us.
What’s New For the Competitor?
You can enter any ridden, in-hand or working class and a 1st or 2nd place WITH a valid 2012 Registration card will allow qualification. This year, our classes are also open to Youngstock, Stallions and Young Handlers. Qualifier venues will be holding their own classes and you will need to be 1st or 2nd in order to qualify for the Equestrian Life Championships.
The Championship Classes
Our Championship schedule will be available shortly. There will be a whole variety of ridden, in-hand and working hunter classes to choose from including M&M, Coloureds, Veterans, Cobs, Concours d’Elegance, Young Handlers. Stallions are permitted for the first time. The qualifier classes are not a reflection of our schedule which is totally separate.
The Championships are being held as part of Ponies UK at Newark Showground, Newark, Notts on Saturday 11th August. You DO NOT need to be a Ponies UK Member to attend OUR Championships but can also enter Ponies UK classes (please check rules and eligibility) if eligible. Follow all the latest news on the 2012 Ponies UK Summer Championships in Equestrian Life Magazine every month. Learn about their training and Elite Riders schemes.
Lights, Camera, Action!
Equestrian Life will have their own rings at Ponies UK on Championship day. The classes will be followed by daytime Section Championships with Champion and Reserve Champion going forward to the Evening Performance in the main arena under the spotlight. All our Judges from the day will then pick the 2012 Supreme and Reserve Supreme of Show.
How to Qualify
The qualifier venues listed below are holding a maximum of two qualifiers this summer. In order to qualify you must :
- Have a 2012 Registration card with you in the ring
- Be an Amateur who does not make a full-time living from working with horses
- Qualifiers are not open to professionals or producers
- Combinations that have qualified or competed at HOYS or RIHS in 2011 or 2012 are not eligible to enter
- You may enter as many horses/ponies as you wish, you do not have to own them
- The same combination ONLY must compete at the Championships, NO substitutions allowed
- If you are 1st or 2nd in your class with a 2012 registration card you will qualify. If you have already qualified, please inform the Judge and they can, at their discretion, pass the qualification down the line
- You will be given a Qualifier card which must be signed in the ring. Do not lose as this will be need to be sent in with your Championship entry.
- You can qualify in any Ridden class, any In Hand class or any Working Hunter class that you are eligible to do so. In order to enter one or all three sections at the Championships, you must first qualify in that section, ie, you cannot enter an In Hand Championship class if you have only qualified in a Ridden class
- Our Championship schedule will have a range of classes – you are able to enter as many as eligible to do so. Equestrian Life will accept NO responsibility for classes clashing, they are entered entirely at the competitors risk
We will regularly post updates to the website and monthly in the magazines. If you have any questions – do not hesitate to contact us.
